Axon Wireless has inked a contract with LoginID to incorporate its FIDO-certified passwordless verification into the Axon Wireless customer provisioning portal.

Axon Wireless presently services network carriers and banks in ten countries, enrolling 3 million clients each month in aggregate and registering over 250 million individuals with its Axon Face2Face registration software. Axon also produces biometric registration hardware devices to supplement the Face2Face platform and offers companies an end-to-end solution, possibly giving almost 50,000 devices and allowing over 20,000 personnel to execute their employee onboarding obligations.

The use of FIDO for mobile operator clients aims to remove conventional user credentials flaws, eliminating account takeovers and other possible attacks.

Romeo Pestana, COO, Axon Wireless, stated, “This will be a first for MEA. Axon Wireless will utilize FIDO biometric security as a part of their digital onboarding services. LoginIDs SDKs make it simple to integrate and provide a highly scalable platform to support our current customer base, and growth into the future.”

FIDO2 biometric authentication is increasingly being used to protect transactions for mobile and banking users. As per the GSMA, the number of mobile customers in Africa is expected to increase from 495 million to 615 million between 2020 and 2025. During the same time span, mobile internet users are expected to increase from 303 million to 474 million. Several African and Asian countries are implementing linkages between biometric systems and mobile accounts in order to protect against assaults such as account takeovers, SIM swaps, and phishing.

Thierry Siminger, Head, Telecom Business Unit, GM MEA at LoginID, commented, “Axon Wireless has been a leader in adopting technology that can provide an edge for their business. By introducing FIDO as part of their process for onboarding customers they are demonstrating they are utilizing the most secure and compliant technology for securing customer interactions, and staying ahead of regulator compliance requirements that are becoming the norm.”
