Ubirider, the Portuguese company behind the mobility-as-a-service (MaaS) platform, Pick, has partnered with Mastercard to provide public transportation operators with cutting-edge digital solutions that integrate operational, payment, and ticketing resource data.
Chapin Flynn, Senior Vice President, Transit and Mobility of Mastercard, said, “Mastercard works with partners around the world to help people move around urban environments seamlessly. In that spirit, we partnered with Ubirider both because their digital and multi-modal solutions align closely with our vision and because the Ubirider platform directly addresses rapidly evolving user and transit operator needs.”
In July, Ubirider launched the first Tap-on-Phone traffic application integrated into its software for bus drivers in the city of Évora, in collaboration with Mastercard. The ‘Pick Driver’ app enabled contactless payments to be accepted on Trevo, the city’s primary transportation provider. Following the partnership, the Pick platform was adopted by Fertagus, the company that runs Lisbon’s suburban trains.
This partnership will enable Mastercard and Ubirider to expand on existing products in Portugal by simplifying access and payments for mobility services. Many payment technologies are included in the Pick platform, which consists of mobile applications, cloud software, and web portals and is advantageous to both users and operators.
“We have been working with Mastercard for some time in Portugal and this agreement is the result of successful cases that we have achieved together, but also of the conviction that our digital mobility-as-a-service platform, Pick, is ready to compete successfully around the world,” said Paulo Ferreira dos Santos, CEO and Founder of Ubirider.
